Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP)

The Office of Community Engagement joined the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP) and scientists from around the world, visiting the University of New Mexico’s Sevilleta Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Field Station. This unique day highlighted the connection between community-based science, academic research, and New Mexico’s diverse ecosystems.

Participants toured the Sevilleta Field Station, learning about ongoing UNM-led studies on biodiversity, climate, and ecological change. Visitors also shared their own backgrounds and experiences, creating an international exchange of ideas in the heart of the Southwest. The day concluded with a trip to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, offering a closer look at one of the region’s most important habitats for wildlife and conservation research.

This collaboration reflects our mission to connect global science with local communities, bringing together education, research, and environmental stewardship.
