This workshop aims to offer valuable perspectives to early career faculty members with an interest in community engagement. The program is thoughtfully crafted to present a diverse array of models derived from experienced faculty who have successfully developed and implemented best practices for community engagement in the academy here at the University of New Mexico.

This panel will delve into community engagement across diverse disciplines, engaging in discussions about successful frameworks for community partnerships.

A panel of Deans from schools and colleges across campus will explore how academia and community engagement are vital to the university's mission and how we can cultivate a more effective ecosystem for promoting civic and community engagement.

Community-based Participatory Research and Community Engagement: Lessons and Participatory Examples from the UNM CBPR Summer Institute: Critical and Indigenous Methodologies  

Panelists:

- Shannon Sanchez-Youngman, Center for Participatory Research, College of Population Health
- Lorenda Belone, College of Population Health

Attendees will learn about the CBPR summer institute from the Center for Participatory Research, College of Population Health, with a wide-ranging group of participants, from masters and doctoral level graduate students who receive Public Health credit, and which is also open to post-doctoral fellows, faculty, research staff, clinicians, public agency professionals and community and tribal members. The diversity of participants creates a mutual learning environment of theory and practice as participants engage in lectures, interactive exercises, case studies, project groups, and reading groups. In addition to lessons learned for curriculum development for other disciplines, we will provide an opportunity for participants to experience activities from the Institute to provide a hands-on experience of the learning.

This panel is dedicated to exploring models for validating Community Engagement Scholarship within the tenure and promotion process. It will delve into how to gain a deeper understanding of how civic and community engagement contributes to enhancing the quality of scholarship at the university.
