2026 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification
The University of New Mexico submitted its application for the 2026 Carnegie Community Engagement Classification in April 2025. The application is being led by the Office of Community Engagement in collaboration with UNM faculty, staff, students, and community partners across the state and region.
This national designation recognizes institutions that demonstrate a deep and sustained commitment to reciprocal, impactful partnerships that advance teaching, research, and community priorities.
As a Hispanic-Serving Institution and one of the nation’s leading universities for Native students, UNM’s application reflects our mission to honor place, celebrate diversity, and strengthen equity and inclusion. Rooted in the vision of Advance UNM 2040, our community engagement efforts are shaping a future that expands educational opportunity, supports health and well-being, fosters sustainable economic development, and enriches civic and cultural life throughout New Mexico.
We look forward to continuing this important work with our partners and will be notified of our classification status in January 2026.
